When designing an efficient office area the type of lighting can affect the productivity of employees. Office lighting is usually filtered to reduce the amount of glare reflected on windows and computer screens. When selecting a commercial lighting fixture the products designed for use in an office environment will be different than those created for retail stores and restaurants. Fixtures created for use with the traditional long fluorescent tube lights can come as ceiling mounted units, which hang below the ceiling tiles or as recessed units. These product are usually made with a  metal casing, which can be aluminum.

The commercial lighting fixtures used in to illuminate hallway areas can be domes or globes. These items have a metal or wood base used to mount the fixture to a wall or ceiling. The globe can be made of frosted glass to allow the light to filter through in a non-glaring manner. Ceiling and wall lights can also come with lamp shades made of metal, which leave the bulb exposed creating a brighter light. This type of product is often used in hotels and restaurants to create an atmosphere more similar to one found in a home.

In the category of commercial lighting products there are also items designed for use outdoors. Lights are used in parking garages as well as on the outside of entryways. These items will have casings designed to be weatherproof. Unlike the products created to have a diffused or filtered light, these items produce a very bright light to dissuade any would be thieves or vandals from entering the property. All of the various lights can be found in styles made to conserve energy such as the LED and solar models. Creating a user friendly atmosphere for employees is easy when the right type of lighting is installed.
